A huge fire at Ideal Recycling on Route 2 is being fought by multiple departments, including the National Guard and Forest Rangers.

The fire started sometime around noon at the facility. Plumes of thick, black smoke could be seen for miles and a portion of Route 2 has been closed all afternoon as crews work to extinguish the fire. A helicopter was spotted pulling water out of the Soudabscook Stream to pour on the flames.

So far, there's no word on what sparked the fire. Once it's extinguished, the State Fire Marshal's Office will investigate.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
