Icy roads are being blamed for an accident on MDI that killed a Saco man.

The Mount Desert Islander reports 28-year-old Christopher Colman died in the accident that happened just before noon Sunday on Route 102. Police say Colman was driving north when he lost control of his vehicle on an icy road near the Southwest Harbor town line. His vehicle slid sideways and struck a car head-on in the opposite lane.

Coleman was extricated from his vehicle. LifeFlight was called in to take him to a hospital, but he passed away before they could take off. The other driver, 54-year-old Scott Alley of Southwest Harbor, was transported to MDI hospital with possible broken bones. Both vehicles were totaled in the crash.
