The body of man who officials believe fell through the ice Monday night has been recovered from Megunticook Lake.

According to the Porltand Press Herald, Trueman Moore, 20, of Camden was walking along the shore in Lincolnville with some friends, when he decided to walk out onto the ice.

As with many waterways in Maine right now, the ice was very thin and there was considerable open water. It was dark and so his friends didn't see him fall through but, when Moore didn't return, they notified authorities and reported him missing.

Efforts to find him Monday night were unsuccessful, but two Warden's Service divers found Moore's body Tuesday morning about 100 feet from land in about 22 feet of water.

The Warden Service is warning residents that the mild winter has made the ice very thin and is causing waterways to open up earlier than usual. Residents are urged to use caution before going out and know the condition of the ice. Hypothermia will prevent your ability to move freely after only about 10 minutes in the water.
