A Plymouth man was killed when he was struck by passing vehicle on Route 9 in Aurora on Thanksgiving Day.

Anthony Barnes, 34, had been traveling east in a 2008 Chevy Equinox. He stopped in the driving lane and shut the vehicle and its lights off. He got out of the vehicle and was standing on the driver side, according to a police report.

At that time, a 1999 Volkswagen Cabrio being driven by Mitch Russell, 28 of Calais was also driving east. The Volkswagen clipped the left rear door of the Equinox and struck Barnes who was standing outside. Barnes ended up in the roadway and the Volkswagen went off the right side of the road. Barnes was transported via helicopter to EMMC where he died shortly after arrival.

Passengers in both vehicles were uninjured.

The accident remains under investigation.
