The Maine Legislature is being asked to consider a mandatory motorcycle helmet law.  The bill was framed by supporters this week and will go before the Transportation Committee next week. So, what do you think? Should motorcyclists in Maine be required to wear a helmet?

The Portland Press Herald reports that medical groups joined brain injury survivors in asking the Transportation Committee to pass the bill, sponsored by Representative Paulette Beaudoin, who proposed the bill previously in 2009 and saw it rejected. Maine passed a law requiring helmets in 1967, but saw it repealed 10 years later.

The United Bikers of Maine do not agree with the proposal, urging "Education not Legislation." They have posted a copy of the proposed helmet bill (LD66) on their website, so you can read it for yourself.

So, tell us what you think. Should Maine pass a mandatory helmet law?
