The communications company "selected 15 popular villains from classic, pre-2000 horror movies and used Google Trends to analyze their search volume in the last 12 months. We then reported the villain with the highest search volume in each state." The top result for Maine was David Naughton's character as David Kessler in the 1981 film An American Werewolf in London.

Other states followed the trend of films based in there state. Colorado had Jack Torrance. Arizona had Norman Bates and Chucky, although that film was based in Chicago. Another two way tie was Arkansas who also had Norman Bates, and Hannibal Lecter.

West Virginia has a lot to fear. The state had a seven way tie with  Pinhead, Michael Myers, Count Dracula, Hannibal Lecter, Freddie Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Pennywise.
