Maine State Police today formally charged an inmate at the Maine State Prison with the stabbing death of another prisoner. The cause of death for Micah Boland was also revealed today.

Police have charged Richard Stahursky with murder in connection with the death. Stahursky has a long and violent history with the prison, including receiving an 8-year-sentence in 2012 for an attack on a prison employee. He’d also been convicted in the past of two separate stabbing incidents involving inmates. He was set to be released in 2032.

Boland had served six years of a 22-year-sentence imposed in 2002 for a gross sexual assault involving a 4-year-old girl. The medical examiner’s office concluded, after examining the body, that Boland “died as the result of multiple stab wounds to the face neck and torso with extensive hemorrhage and blunt impact of head with bone fractures and brain injury.”

Stahursky will make his first court appearance in Knox County Superior Court on Thursday at 1pm. He continues to be held at the prison.
