Maine has been rated number one in the best state for a cat to live. The survey was conducted by Estately. They looked for things like lifespans, the number of households with feline family members, frequency of heartworm disease, number of no-kill shelters, Facebook “likes” for cats,  and other factors to determine our list of the ten best U.S. states for cat lovers. It seems that having a cat in your lap is more favorable in the northern states. Here are the ratings:

  1. Maine
  2. Vermont
  3. New Hampshire
  4. Washington
  5. West Virginia
  6. Oregon
  7. Montana
  8. Wyoming
  9. Massachusetts
  10. Indiana
