Maine One of Top Bicycle Friendly States

This is National Bike to Work Week and The League of American Bicyclists has named Maine as one of the best states in the nation for a two-wheel ride. 

Maine took second place for best biking in New England and 15th on a national level. Massachusetts took first place for New England with Washington taking the top spot for the seventh year in a row, and Alabama remained in last place for the second year in a row.

The state dropped 2 spots from last year's 13th best ranking with Maine's biggest challenge being the lack of biking options during the winter months.

Maine tops the list for having an active bicycle advocacy organization, running a successful “Share the Road” campaign, emphasizing bicycle safety in highway planning and having a “safe passing” law.
