The state is looking into integrating iPads into middle schools.

Maine was the first state to hand out laptops to middle school students seven years ago. Now new technology is being debated. Tablets are the way of the future and officials are seeing that.

The Maine Learning Technology Initiative has five contract options up for debate. Two of the options involve the use of iPads.

The switch could possibly save the state a few bucks. The 30,000 Apple Macbook's that are currently in schools cost $247 per laptop. The iPads could cost as little as $217 per tablet.

The final decision could be made in the next few weeks.
