The Madawaska Middle/High School band has been selected to perform in Washington D.C. before President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

The Pride of Madawaska marching band will perform Jan. 19 at the Make America Great! Welcome Concert at the Lincoln Memorial, the school district said in a news release Wednesday.

The band is 1 of only 12 ensembles selected to perform at the concert and the only one form Maine, the release said.

“This honor truly validates all the hard work, dedication and commitment by the student musicians," Principal Wayne Anderson said in the release. “For them to be part of such a historic event not only reinforces their passions for music, but provides them a real life lesson in civics and government that most students will only experience in a textbook or on some visual media presentation."

Trump will be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 20.

The band's booster club is soliciting sponsorships to fund the band’s travel and lodging costs.
