Lupita Nyong’o + Scarlett Johansson Reportedly ‘In Talks’ to Star in Disney’s ‘Jungle Book’
Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’o was just named PEOPLE’s Most Beautiful Person, but it looks like she may have an even higher honor coming her way soon — as she is reportedly in talks to star in Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book.’ According to the Hollywood Reporter, the ’12 Years a Slave’ actress is in talks with Disney to play Rakcha, “the mother wolf who adopts Mowgli,” the trade site states.
The Disney movie — a remake of the classic 1967 animated classic by the same name, which, in turn, was based on the Rudyard Kipling book — is set to be a “live-action/CGI hybrid” movie, the Hollywood Reporter reveals. ‘Iron Man’ director/producer Jon Favreau will direct, while Nyong’o is in “final negotiations” to play the part of Mowgli’s adoptive wolf mother. Scarlett Johansson is also in early talks to voice Kaa, the hypnotic snake who is one of the lesser villains in the film. Idris Elba will play Shere Khan, the evil tiger that is the movie’s most prominent villain.
With all of that A-list talent hopefully joining forces, Disney’s new remake of ‘The Jungle Book’ is looking pretty darn promising. Now the question is: Who will get the part of Mowgli?
‘The Jungle Book’ is set to hit theaters on October 9, 2015. PopCrushers, what do you think of Disney’s live-action/CGI remake? Will you see the film?
