Lucy Hale Gets Personal in New Song ‘Nervous Girls’ [LISTEN]

Only a week separates us from Lucy Hale’s debut album ‘Road Between,’ and to hold us over while we wait, the actress-turned-singer has surprised us by dropping a new track ‘Nervous Girls.’

The intimate tune is slow and melancholic, a pretty far cry from her upbeat first single ‘You Sound Good to Me.’ The rising country star has gone for a more personal feel with ‘Nervous Girls,’ drawing from her own insecurities and experiences while growing up.

“A lot of time, people judge a book by its cover, so someone who’s in my position, they think, ‘Oh, this is a girl who’s kind of got everything figured out and who’s living a life without any problems or issues,’ and that couldn’t be further from the truth,” Lucy explained to SheKnows.

She added, “I think ‘Nervous Girls’ is one that speaks directly to my heart and will hopefully speak to other girls. It’s kind of uniting in a way and should almost bring comfort to other people, because ultimately all of our issues kind of root from the same emotion.”

The universal idea of an insecure girl trying to find her way is clear in the song’s lyrics, with lines such as, “I’m scared and I’m brave, or somewhere between the two / I’m beautifully strong, and tragically confused / Yeah I’m that girl, that’s just like you.”

Any girl who has ever felt insecure or unsure of who she is — and who hasn’t felt that way at some point? — will be able to relate to this sad, but ultimately hopeful, song.
