Every so often an animal gets a good idea that turns out to be not so good for the rest of us.  I remember one time my dad who was head of the electrical plant at the University of Maine was called in because a raccoon had climbed a fence and scaled a tower only to go out in a blaze of glory that left the campus and much of the surrounding area in the dark.

Along those lines…no pun intended a beaver is being blamed for knocking out power to thousands of electric customers here in eastern Maine.

AP reported that Emera Maine said about 3,000 homes and businesses in Aroostook County were without electricity on Monday night when a beaver felled a tree (seemed like a good idea at the time)  that took down a transmission line. Spokesman Bob Potts says to make matters worse, the tree came down in a remote wooded area that was hard to reach. The towns of Ludlow, Oakfield, Sherman, Island Falls and Patten were the hardest hit. They are hoping to have everything up and running again today
