You may have seen our Facebook Live we did last week of the planting of our garden.

The truth is, I'm not much of a gardener or a plant person. My husband buys me cacti because he knows the occasional watering is my style. If it required meticulous pruning and cultivating than I'm not the right owner for that plant. Let's just say, I'm a Darwinist at heart.

My previous profession had me right in the center of downtown where I could really take in the views and beauty of downtown with its historical buildings, haunting alleyways and community-fed art and gardens. My favorite spot was the Norumbega Parkway where I'd sit and chat with Hannibal Hamlin. He isn't much of a conversationalist.

Seeing this efforts made by local organizations and groups (including a local girl scout troop) to be a part of downtown -- by providing me with moments of reprieve and reflection in a busy job among busy people and busy streets -- made me really want to join the ranks of local organizations to bring a breath of life to downtown.

Being new to the Z crew, I really wanted to participate in this adopt-a-garden but wanted to be sure it was vibrant like our music and downtown because, left to my on devices, it probably wouldn't be so lovely.

I got some great advice from Holly Clukey of Sprague's Nursery and she supplied me with everything I needed to grow a beautiful plot in downtown Bangor including flowers, mulch, soil, tools and soil additives.
