Listen to Nicki Minaj’s ‘Freedom’
Nicki Minaj compares herself to the Messiah in ‘Freedom,’ a new track off of her upcoming ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up.”
“They never thank me for opening doors / But they never even thanked Jesus for opening doors,” Minaj spits in the opening lines. That’s heavy stuff, isn’t it? She also goes on in the same verse to subtly compare herself to J-Hova himself, Jay-Z, saying, “‘Pink Friday’ was the pink-print,” a reference to Jigga’s classic ‘The Blueprint.’
The song, while full of braggadocio, is actually most sonically similar to her lovelorn track from ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded’ ‘Young Forever.’ There’s minimal production in the verses and a sung chorus, in which Minaj croons, “I feel free / I feel freedom / Why they mad? / You should see them.” Minaj takes her haters to task but remains softspoken and melodic in the hook, lamenting, “It’s crazy in here.”
It’s unclear whether ‘Freedom’ will be a single, but it sounds like it’d fit in seamlessly on both pop and hip-hop radio. Minaj teased the studio sessions for the song in a preview for ‘Nicki Minaj: My Truth,’ airing tonight (Nov. 4) on E!. You can snag the full tracklisting for ‘Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded: The Re-Up’ here, then pick it up when it hits shelves on Nov. 19.
