Another out of this world stargazing opportunity...ruined by Maine weather...

The Leonid Meteor Shower will peak tonight. However, with rain and clouds in the forecast it may be impossible to see. If you're lucky you could see 10 to 15 Leonid meteors per hour.

Space.com says shooting stars will be visible from midnight to dawn. The best viewing will be right before the sun rises. Leonid meteors were also streaking across the sky last night into dawn today.

Astronomers say if you find a clear sky tonight, the shooting stars will be sporadic and not thousands of meteors pouring down from the sky like rain.

The Leonid Meteor Shower has produced incredible displays with tens of thousands of meteors per-hour back in 1833 and 1966. The photo above shows the incredible 1966 display. Meteor rates of a few thousand per-hour were observed back in 1999-2002.
