I’m not really sure how I feel about the new Hollywood trend of releasing teasers for trailers. On the one hand, it certainly takes away the element of surprise; one of the best parts of coming back from a long day of meetings or classes is seeing that a brand new Star Wars spot has been dropped in your absence. On the other hand, though, it’s a real boon for cultural writers like me. Rogue One hints online that their next trailer will be released during the Olympics? You better believe we’ll be ready.

While plenty of people are already excited about the prospect of a brand new trailer for Kong: Skull Island, Warner Bros. isn’t taking any chances, releasing a teaser (via Heroic Hollywood) to help drum up interest and keep people excited.

This teaser is only about 11 seconds long, so there isn’t going to be any new footage, but it does seem to reinforce the kind of anachronistic style that Kong: Skull Island is aiming for. The teaser is edited to look like a 1940’s era newsreel, which, taken in combination with the dapper adventurers introduced in the first trailer, would suggest that the film is going for a modern setting but a classic Hollywood vibe.

Now that Entertainment Weekly has given us our first look at the brand new King Kong, the second trailer will likely hold very little back, offering some more explicit footage of Kong and the creatures of Skull Island in battle. No more Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson shooting at things off screen; in four days, we’ll get to see a bit of the real action play out. And honestly, based on the year we’ve been having so far? I kind of hope that Kong wins this time.

Here’s the full plot synopsis for Kong: Skull Island:

When a scientific expedition to an uncharted island awakens titanic forces of nature, a mission of discovery becomes an explosive war between monster and man. Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly star in a thrilling and original new adventure that reveals the untold story of how Kong became King.

Kong: Skull Island will hit theaters on March 10, 2017.
