Kickoff Celebration for Ellsworth’s Knowlton Community Park Is This Sunday!

The BIG Kickoff Celebration for what will be the amazing new Knowlton Community Park is this Sunday (5/19) between 1 and 4pm!  The location will be right there at the current park on State Street in Ellsworth!  It’s free and everyone is invited to attend!

Twenty five years ago folks in the Ellsworth area got together to build the Jump Playground,  and yes I was one of those people  on site that day with hammer in hand.  The old wooden playground on the site of the old Knowlton School has been torn down, along with the school for that matter.  You may still use what’s left, some of the older playground stuff, the swings and the slides, the one lone picnic table, but what’s forthcoming will be very impressive!

We’re going to build an entire park, to enjoy for all seasons, and we need your help and participation.  To begin with, come on out and PARTY with us this Sunday!

Here is what’ll be going on: Flash! in the Pans Community Steelband and the Trisha Mason Band will be performing. There will be a Zumba demo, a Yoga demo, a yummy FREE Barbecue by Big Cat’s Catering and delicious FREE Morton’s Moo Homemade Ice Cream!   Play in the pick-up 19th century baseball game, join the three-legged race & other fun challenge races & contests, bring the kids out for facepainting and view the pen-and-ink caricatures!

The new Knowlton Community Park is really going to be quite amazing, with an amphitheater, a pavilion and fountain, a children’s water park, a beautiful walking path, along with the existing playground, and yes the ice skating rink will be there in the Winter!

Community Campaign Chair Michele Francis is excited about the event.  “Our committee has been working on this event for months.  Everyone is so enthusiastic about the park, and this is going to be a really fun afternoon.  There’ll be something for everyone – and we hope a lot of people will show up next Sunday.  And, with everyone’s help, a year from now we’ll be celebrating our success and enjoying our beautiful new park.”

Ellsworth City Mayor Gary Fortier will be making a SURPRISE announcement!  And yes, I will be there broadcasting, I really hope to see you there as we learn more about the new Knowlton Community Park and how we can all help to build it!

The climax of the afternoon event will be the unveiling of the campaign “thermometer” showing the progress of the campaign so far, and an invitation to the public to join the effort to build a park for the people of Ellsworth and the surrounding area.

Plans for the park, created by local landscape designer Victor Rydlizky, are on display at Ellsworth City Hall and on the Ellsworth City website.
