“Keep Your Friends Close and Your Enemies Closer.”

The jury is out over who said it first.

My first time was Michael Corleone in ‘The Godfather’ but I think we all understand the meaning of keep those you trust near to you while still keeping closer eye on your enemies.

I am guessing that is the reason for the latest Facebook trend according to new research.

They said more than likely you have a least one or two people in your Facebook friends’ list that you wouldn’t really want to spend time with in real life. And like in the Godfather, the poll also proposes that the reason we keep these so-called friends on the site is purely so we can snoop on what they’re up to.

The actual numbers showed that 68 percent of users have Facebook friends they don’t like – and almost half would actively avoid these people in the street.

Reasons they gave for keeping them include:

  • 69 percent said, I like to see what they’re up to.
  • 57 percent said, They’re family, or a loved one’s family member.
  • 54 percent said, It’s a current or former colleague that I need to stay in contact with.-
  • 50 percent said, They’d cause a scene if I deleted them as a friend.
