Katy Perry Sued Over GHD Hair Care Contract

Katy Perry

Katy Perry is known for her ever-changing hair. It was a no brainer when British hair care company GHD hired her as a spokesmodel, but things have soured between the parties and they are embroiled in a “They said, she said” contract dispute, with GHD suing the singer.

GHD, which stands for “Good Hair Day,” wants to sever its ties with Perry, since it feels she is less popular than she was when they signed her, and therefore, it’s not a good return on investment. The company filed suit, disputing an oral agreement extending the deal. They also want to block Perry from suing.

GHD claims that in 2011, the diva who is known for her thick, glossy, raven locks, even though she is a natural blonde, had a written, $4.5 million contract to promote the company’s products for two years. She appeared in their ads, too. Like these and these, and this one.

However, Perry’s agent claims that the singer is owed an additional $2 million due to an oral agreement that was made, extending her contract. The agent threatened to sue, but GHD beat ’em to the punch and filed suit first.

GHD and Jemella Group claim that there is no oral agreement and that they decided not to renew Perry’s deal since market research indicated that European fans aren’t that into Perry any longer. Ouch. That has to sting!

Perry’s rep told TMZ, “Jemella’s attempt to embarrass Ms. Perry by including defamatory statements about her in a public filing is shameful.” Perry plans to sue if she doesn’t get her $2 million.

Perry herself said, “They’re backing out of the deal because of an ownership change, and just throwing shade to hide their bad faith.”
