Justin Bieber + Selena Gomez Leave 2012 American Music Awards Holding Hands

Despite the fact that they did not sit next to one another at the ceremony, and that she seemed nowhere to be found, and the fact that he didn’t give her a shout-out or thank her during any of his acceptance speeches, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were seen exiting the 2012 American Music Awards holding hands. So much for being broken up… we think!

The once and former couple, the status of which we really don’t know (since it seems to change daily), were photographed leaving the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles last night (Nov. 18), clutching hands. She was not seen on camera nor did she walk the red carpet, a stark contrast from last year, when the Biebs was seen holding the train of her gorgeous dress, so she didn’t trip on it.

A source told Hollywood Life that Sel chose to stay away from the spotlight at the event since she wanted it to be about Biebs and his fans and his music. The insider said, “It’s not that Selena didn’t want to come to the AMAs, she just didn’t want all the attention to be on their relationship. She wanted it to be about the music and let Justin just be there for his fans. She still loves Justin. The love is still there, they just need to disappear to an exotic island together.”

Perhaps they should do that. Spend some alone time together and figure out who they are and what they want to be.

Another source also said the reason her name was absent from his acceptance speeches was simple. The insider told Hollywood Life, “He really wanted Selena to be there with him [at the AMAs]. Justin wanted to thank Selena in his acceptance speeches, but was advised not to bring up his personal life.”

We think the fact that he didn’t change the lyrics to ‘Beauty and a Beat,’ where her name is dropped, during the live performance is all-telling.

Update: Video footage has been released of Justin and Selena together after the American Music Awards, which you can watch below. According to Perez Hilton, the pair also attended an after-party together and were “dancing on each other.” A source continued, “They seemed to be in great spirits and were clearly enjoying their time together.”
