Whoa! 'Mad Men' star Jon Hamm is one handsome gent, and we're used to seeing him all clean cut. Until tonight. At the 2013 Emmys (Sept. 22), the actor showed up rocking a thick, bushy beard, leaving us all like, "Who's that lumberjack onstage presenting an award with Alec Baldwin?"

It was certainly a shock to our system to see Hamm rocking such thick and dark face fuzz. It's not a chin strap. It's not a goatee. It's not a soul patch. It's a full on beard, the kind one grows when about to embark on an expedition to Antarctica and therefore requires an extra layer of insulation to protect and to prevent facial frostbite.

If you look closely in the photo below, there's a tiny bit of salt and pepper in the coloring.

The look is a tad mountain man, but hey, Hamm still pulled it off with aplomb. Since he was wearing an eggshell tux jacket and black bow tie, he still came off looking like a distinguished gentleman.

So why the beard?

"I love not shaving," he said. "This ends up happening. I was in England and was working on a project and had been away for four months and I finally got home and I was like, 'I think I'm done with shaving for a little while.' That was three days ago and then this happens."

Here's a case when laziness ends up being a good thing.
