John Mayer guest-hosted 'The Late Late Show' last night (Feb. 4), and of course he couldn't resist gushing about Katy Perry's epic Super Bowl performance.

In addition to literally bringing her shark dancers on as guests, the soulful songwriter sat down with Andy Cohen, who was dying to know where Mayer watched the half-time show.

"I was watching from the box. It was a family box," the 'Your Body Is a Wonderland' singer revealed. "It was unbelievable. The whole thing about the sharks -- everybody wants to talk about the sharks -- because it's just something everyone can grab onto because not everyone is comfortable walking around saying that Katy Perry is amazing. So they use the sharks kind of like, 'Guys, love the sharks.' It's like, 'You have nothing bad to say about the performance, do you?'"

"She made the Internet a kind, gentle place for a day," Mayer continued. "It was awesome. It was awesome."

Still, the musician was up to Andy Cohen's sneaky tricks.

When the 'Watch What Happens Live!' host congratulated "you and your girlfriend" on the performance -- clearly referring to Mayer and Perry -- Mayer was quick to jump all over it.

"Your questions make gossip stories," he replied. "Your questions make Google alerts."
