An 11-month old infant was killed in a single-car crash on the interstate in Wells Monday.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the accident happened at around four o'clock Monday afternoon when the driver, 22-year-old Alyssa Cray of Sanford lost control of the car in heavy rain. It struck guardrails and then came to rest along the tree line beside the highway.

11-month old Reece Degen of Sanford was in a child safety seat in the back seat of the car, but suffered fatal head injuries. The little girl's mother, 21-year-old Brianna Degen of Sanford, was the front seat passenger in the car. Also in the vehicle were Cray's two children, 4-year-old Connor and 3-year-old Alexandria. The adults were taken to the hospital with multiple injuries, and the older children were treated for minor injuries.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
