Heavy Rain Leads To Flooding Across Much Of Maine [VIDEO]
Steady, heavy rain has caused flooding throughout parts of Maine.
WGME-TV reported flash flooding in Portland. The station said parts of Marginal Way and Commercial Street were under water. The area around Whole foods flooded and cars were stranded in the water.
In Penobscot County, the Bangor Police Department warned drivers about possible flooding in the Kenduskeag Plaza parking lot and advised motorists to move their vehicles. Parts of Wilson Street in Brewer were covered with water. In some areas orange barrels were used to block off lanes.
"Piscataquis law enforcement reported water across Schoodic Lake Road in Brownville," the National Weather Service said when issuing a weather advisory on Wednesday. "There have also been reports of vehicle accidents due to hydroplaning."
A flood warning has been issued until 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday and a flood watch is in effect until 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.
Just before 2:00 p.m, the agency's office in Gray said more than five inches of rain had already fallen in some parts of the state.
Emera Maine is reporting a little over 9300 customers without power as of 3:55 PM, with more than half in Hancock County.
