Police say a Portland man is in critical condition after his vehicle was struck head-on last night on I-295.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the accident happened at round 9 o'clock Monday evening in South Portland. State Police say a Toyota 4Runner, driven by 37-year-old Pau Regan of Dayton, was traveling south when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed into the median. The SUV went airborne after hitting the guardrail, and then struck, head-on, a Jeep Cherokee that was traveling North.

The Jeep was driven by 26-year-old Nicholas Dubose of Portland and had one passenger, 25-year-old Thomas Netting. Dubose suffered a serious head injury and is in critical condition at Maine Medical Center. Regan and Netting had minor injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
