Every week we will feature a new hometown and share photos and facts using hashtags on social media. This week our #hashtag hometown is Orono!

This town got the most snow in Penobscot county during the big storm Monday, so we had to show them some love! The town is home to 10,000+ and even more when school is in session at the University of Maine.

Named after Chief Joseph Orono on the Penobscot Nation. Orono lies on part of the Penobscot River and Pushaw Lake on the other side of the town. Orono also includes the Stillwater River and scenic Marsh Island.

Orono also has some really great places to eat! Pat's Pizza, Margarita's, The Family Dog, Woodman's, Orono House of Pizza, Verve, Bear Brew, and more here! There is no way you will go hungry!

Of course the town is dominated by the University of Maine and it's facilities and students, but for many of them Orono is a home away from home. The school continues to grow and graduate many successful people like Olympia Snowe, and Stephen King.
