Get ready for a change while shopping at select Hannaford supermarkets.

Hannaford will begin charging a 5-cent fee this Monday, Oct. 8, in the following towns: Belfast, Brunswick, Kennebunk, Saco and York. Those particular communities have banned the use of plastic bags.

It's an overall effort by the grocery chain to encourage customers to use reusable shopping bags. Other than the five markets listed, Hannaford hasn't yet revealed its plans, if any, for all of the company's 181 stores, a company spokesman told WMTW.
