Hampden police have released the identity of a 21-year-old man who was fatally shot by a police officer last night. Cameron Arrigoni was killed when he allegedly pointed a gun at Sgt. Chris Bailey and Officer Bill Miller, who responded at around 9:20 to a report of a suicidal male with a possible gun involved. Also in the Main Road South home was an unidentified 24-year-old female.

Hampden's public safety director, Joe Rogers says when the officers arrived, they began evacuating residences nearby.

"While they were doing that, they received another call. Apparently there was an altercation between the suicidal male and the female, so they needed to enter the residence, which they did. They went up a staircase and entered a bedroom where the gentleman pointed a gun at Sergeant Chris Bailey."

Rogers says Bailey has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.

"We will conduct our own internal investigation and, pending the outcome of that, he'll be reinstated, when he's ready. So it will probably be a couple weeks, anyway..maybe longer."

The case is also being reviewed by the state Attorney General’s office. Rogers says prior to last night, police had never had any dealings with Arrigoni.
