An 11-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after he was struck by a car on Monday morning.

WABI-TV reports the boy was crossing Route 1A near the old Hampden Academy at around 8:30 a.m. when he was struck. Police say vehicles in the northbound lane were stopped but some vehicles in the southbound lane were moving, and one struck the boy.

He was thrown the full-length of the vehicle and was hurt. But police say the boy was alert and in good spirits when he was taken to the hospital. The vehicle was only moving at about 20 miles per hour.

Police say 20-year-old Yodit Rosenbauer, who was driving the car that struck the boy, had glanced at her GPS when he walked in front of her vehicle. She told police she's not familiar with the area. Rosenbauer was cited for distracted driving.
