A Winslow resident caught a freak hail storm this week on video, showing the icy stones hitting his car and crunching under his feet.

It's been a weird winter, with more ice than snow in many areas, and reports of robins popping up in January. But, in Winslow, a hail storm this week caught everyone by surprise. Kevin Kratka was quick, grabbing his camera and recording the falling hail stones.

Watching this video reminds me of a day, several years ago, when my son and I were sitting in a hotel room in Houlton during the Houlton Fair, and it started to hail. Right outside the window was my brand new Ford Focus getting pelted with ice. It was a scary few minutes until the storm passed but, luckily, no damage was done to my first-ever showroom-new car.

So far this year, we've had hail, sleet, freezing rain, and thunder snow. What's next? Sunshine? A significant snowfall in the Bangor area? Let's hope that's as exciting as it gets!
