Governor Paul LePage has issued an order that all Maine flags be lowered to half-staff in honor of the victims of terrorist attacks in France.

The order is effective immediately and will last until sunset on Thursday, November 19th. President Barack Obama has also issued a proclamation in honor of the victims of the Paris attacks which directs all American flags be lowered to half-staff for the same period of time.

The Governor also issued a statement:

"On behalf of all Mainers, we offer our deepest condolences and will continue to pray for the victims, their families and friends, and France as a nation. An attack on Paris is an assault on the United States and we stand ready to support our Allies in condemning all acts of terrorism."

LePage went on to say that his office and the Maine Emergency Management Agency is working with federal authorities, continuing "to be vigilant regarding any reported suspicious activity." He said his office has reached out to the Consulate General of France in Boston to "offer any assistance on behalf of the State of Maine."
