In case you missed it, because you were muting the commercial breaks or what have you, Fox debuted a new 'Gone Girl' trailer during the 2014 Emmys, broadcast on NBC Monday night and showcasing never-before-seen footage of Ben Affleck in this twisted tale from director David Fincher and the original best-selling novel.

"... This man of mine may kill me," writes Amy Dunne, played by Rosamund Pike, in the latest 'Gone Girl' trailer. The original psychological-thriller novel of the same name from writer Gillian Flynn wowed readers with its disturbingly complex lead character, Nick, played in the film by Affleck. But now Fincher, of 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' and 'House of Cards' fame, has his hands on the source material, and we couldn't be more enticed.

From the official plot synopsis:

On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his beautiful wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick's portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

This 'Gone Girl' trailer was not only one of the highlights of the 2014 Emmys, it also featured brand-new footage from the film, which plays more with the audiences' heads than previous looks. Is Affleck's Nick the true villain of the story, or is he the tragically scarred husband trying to adapt to his wife's disappearance? This mind game is the driving force behind the source material and what made the novel such a hit.

Find out the answer for yourself when 'Gone Girl' hits theaters on October 3, though book fans should be warned that the film will feature a different ending.
