For the Love of Music and Maine’s Homeless Veterans

Music is a gift that heals.

This Sunday in Augusta, the love of music will help to provide basic necessities to homeless veterans who have served to protect this nation and our freedoms.

It's the fourth annual Debbie Meyers and Friends Benefit Concert and when you buy a ticket you get over six hours of fabulous music performed by Meyers and several of her talented musical friends.

Meyers is passionate about the cause, which will provide everything from warm winter clothing to toothbrushes and haircuts for Maine's population of homeless veterans during the Homeless Stand Down event in October, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs.

Meyers says she's learned that one of the most difficult things our military members face after their deployment is a healthy transition back into their normal lives and some struggle with that more than others.

"They'll come back and they've lost their home and their family, so the first part of it is for us to help them find a home again," states Meyers. "We need to get them into shelters and help get them out of their cars, tents, or cardboard boxes. We just need to give back."

The 4th Annual Debbie Meyers and Friends Benefit for Maine's Homeless veterans is set for this Sunday at the Augusta Elks Lodge on Civic Center Drive starting at Noon.

Performers will include Meyers and her group, Brenda Millett, Denny Breau, Mainely Country Band, Joan Kennedy and more.

Meyers tells us there's also going to be a huge silent auction running at the event with "amazing" items available.
