The Purge runs 1hr 25min‎‎ – Rated R‎‎ – Scifi/Fantasy/Suspense/Thriller‎
Director: James DeMonaco – Cast: Lena Headey, Ethan Hawke, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge, Rhys Wakefield

In a futuristic America plagued by crime and overcrowded prisons, the government has sanctioned an annual 12-hour period in which any and all criminal activity-including murder-becomes legal. No police will come. Hospitals won’t  help you.  When during the yearly lockdown an intruder is brought into the home of James Sandin’s (Ethan Hawke) and his family, they must try to survive the night without compromising their personal moral code.  Beginning a sequence of events that threatens to tear a family apart.

Review: Let me start by saying I felt the Purge was well written and acted.  At times a little predictable and sometimes a bit of a surprise. It definitely had a few jump you and tense situations but mostly it asks you the question…could we really do this? Amazingly enough you don’t have to go far in the the world today or back in history very far to know that we as human beings could. Marxist, ethnic cleansing, communism it has done this and worse. Then pops into your mind as you sit there if this were the law where would you fall? Can the repressed evil in all of us run free on a limited basis? No question, this is a well done movie.  If you go get ready for a lot of blood and tears with a little fright.

1-10 I’d give this flick a 7.

Show me everything playing at the Bangor Mall Cinemas.
