Fish Lead-Free With This Maine Lead Tackle Buy-Back Program
Lead-free is the way to be, especially when you are fishing in the lakes and waters of Maine.
Fish lead-free campaign in Maine
Maine has seen many creatures poisoned by lead bullets and lead tackles, which is the focus of Maine's 'Fish Lead-Free' campaign, which buys back the lead tackle that fishermen and women may use to get their catch.
Buying back the lead tackle could lead to fewer deaths of Maine's wildlife due to the consumption directly and indirectly of the lead tackle.
Protect Maine's loons, go lead-free
This program is specifically targeted to protect Maine's precious Loon population, which has been particularly affected by lead tackle in the sport of fishing here in the state.
Even though the flyer posted on the website states 'offer valid until March 21, 2021', the offer has changed to be valid until March 15, 2026.
Where to trade your lead tackle
The buy-back program includes a voucher that is available one per person. To participate in the program, those that want to trade in their lead tackle must visit a participating retailer. Currently, that list includes Indian Hill Trading Post on Moosehead Lake, Dag's Bait Shop in Auburn, and BackWoods Bait and Tackle in Chesterville.
Also, purchase lead-free tackle at these local Maine retailers listed on the 'Fish lead-free' website, including businesses in Lincoln, Scarborough, Freeport, and Portland.
