The victim of a fire has been positively identified as the owner of the business that burned. His body had been too badly burned for immediate identification so it was sent to the state medical examiner's office.

The Medical Examiner identified the remains of 53-year-old Jeffrey Pinkham through DNA. They also determined that Pinkham died as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. The death has been ruled a suicide.

Fire Marshals say the cause of the fire at Pinkham's Auto Repair in Waldoboro last Friday was arson. Investigators think Pinkham started the fire in the early morning hours and then shot himself in the basement as the former gas station on Route 1 burned.
