FCC and FBI Investigating Fake Zombie Attack Transmission

Yesterday we got a good laugh at a video of a fake emergency alert that hit Montana TV stations. The feds are now after the hacker.

As funny as the video was, a breach of security involving the Emergency Alert System (EAS) is a serious problem. The Emergency Alert System was put into action in 1997 after superseding the Emergency Broadcast System. The system is there to warn the public of local emergencies, including floods, tornadoes, blizzards and so on. The president can also use EAS as a way of communicating a national emergency.

All across the country TV and radio stations have been taking precautions to ensure this doesn't happen again. In addition the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the FBI are looking into who hacked EAS in Montana. Some evidence they have found so far is that 'someone' outside the USA was probing around in EAS related gear. The feds also say the hacker must have some experience with the inner workings of EAS, given the complexity of the system.

The hacker violated FCC rules and in addition could face federal criminal charges.
