When did they start letting contestants drink?

When the category is "Song Lyrics", not everyone is an encyclopedia of useless music knowledge like myself, but the answer that came out of this gentleman's mouth on a recent "Wheel of Fortune" episode is SO far off, that ist's a bit of head scratcher.

For the record, the lyric is from the song "Surf City". The 1963 hit was written by the great Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys and perfromed by Jan & Dean. Holy crap...I AM a music nerd.
