Ellsworth Mobile Meth Lab Contained Suspected Bomb

Hancock County Jail – Jones,Brady,Sawyer

Ellsworth police were called to investigate suspicious activity in the parking lot of the Ellsworth Hampton Inn on October 18th. As a result, three Aroostook County residents are facing drug charges for possessing and trafficking in methamphetamine. The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency now says they also found something suspected of being a bomb.

Commander Peter Arno, of the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said in a press release today that when police investigated the report of suspicious activity, they found two vehicles in the parking lot of the hotel, each containing ingredients for making meth. In one of the vehicles, they also found two “One Pot” laboratories where the drug was being manufactured.

Because of the extremely toxic and explosive nature of Methamphetamine manufacturing, the MDEA’s Clandestine Drug Laboratory Enforcement Team (CDLET) was activated in order to safely dismantle the labs.

Agents working on one of the labs also found a suspicious device in one of the vehicles, suspected to be an improvised explosive device. A Maine State Police Bomb Squad technician responded to the scene and disposed of the device by disrupting it. Further testing will be done to determine whether or not this was, in fact, an explosive device.

In 2013, the MDEA CDLET has responded to fourteen suspected methamphetamine related laboratory incidents, the majority of which have been in Aroostook County. This was the first reported methamphetamine laboratory incident in Hancock County.

Arrested in the Ellsworth bust were Jessica Jones, 29, of Fort Fairfield, Ezra Brady, 22, of Bridgewater, and Jesse Sawyer, 31, of Linneus. All have been charged with Trafficking in Schedule W drugs (Methamphetamine), a Class B Felony.
