State police say the deaths of an elderly couple was an apparent murder-suicide. The woman was reportedly in poor health and her husband was her primary caregiver.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland says the bodies of a Gouldsboro couple were found this morning. Virginia Hutchins, age 75 and her husband Raymond Hutchins, age 65, were discovered in their Grand Marsh Bay home Thursday morning by a relative who went to check on them. Detectives say the bodies were found on their couch with a handgun nearby.

Police say it appears Mr. Hutchins shot his wife and then turned the gun on himself. Mrs. Hutchins has been in poor health for some time and her husband was her full-time caregiver. The bodies will be examined by the State Medical Examiner's office on Friday or Saturday.
