Drug Busts in Bangor and Dedham Net Four Arrests, Drugs + Thousands in Cash

Drug raids overnight in Bangor and Dedham ended with four arrests and thousands of dollars in drugs and cash confiscated.  The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency says the drugs, including heroin and oxycodone, originated in New York and were due to be sold in Penobscot and Hancock Counties.

DEA agents, assisted by Bangor Police and Homeland Security Investigation agents searched the apartment of Robert Wood, Jr. , age 46 and Nicole Kelley, age 34, on Langley Street in Bangor after evidence suggested they were trafficking in Oxycodone. Agents seized eight of the prescription painkillers and $500 in cash. Both Wood and Kelley were arrested and transported to the Penobscot County Jail, charged with Class B Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Oxycodone) and Class C Possession of Schedule W Drugs (Oxycodone).

As part of the same investigation, DEA agents and State Police later searched a lakefront house on Granite Road in Dedham during the early morning hours. They seized approximately 15 grams of heroin, 155 Oxycodone tablets, $13,000 in cash, and two handguns. The street value of the Oxycodone is $7,000 and the heroin would have netted $4,000.

Arrested in Dedham was Jonathan Baez, 29 of Bronx, New York and Jerald Hiland, 34 of Old Town. Each are charged with Aggravated Trafficking in Schedule W Drugs (Heroin and Oxycodone), both Class A Felonies. Baez’s charges were elevated because of the guns seized and Baez’s charges were elevated because of a similar drug conviction in December of 2012. Baez served a 4 year sentence, with all but 9 months suspended for that charge.

MDEA director Roy McKinney says the arrests highlight the continued disturbing trend of out-of-state drug traffickers who are coming to Maine for the sole purpose of distributing illicit drugs.
