A man from Dyer Brook was injured when the semi he was driving slid down an embankment and rolled onto its side.

State Police say the accident happened at around 5:17 Monday evening near Curtis Road in Monticello. 62-year-old Kerry Hardy was westbound on a private logging road, driving a tractor trailer loaded with tree-length logs. As he was traveling down a hill and around a right turn, the rear of his loaded trailer went off the right side of the road. The trailer slid down an embankment and rolled onto its right side, which caused the tractor to roll as well. The load of logs released from the trailer and into the ditch.

Hardy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown to the passenger side of the cab. He sustained a major laceration to the head and a possible broken right leg. Ambulance staff and first responders had to extract Hardy from the truck, at which point he was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment.

The tractor trailer sustained significant damage in the crash and the truck and load were removed from the scene later. Police say speed was not a factor in the crash.
