A man who crashed his car into a Gothic building in Belfast on Saturday has died, although it's not clear if it was from injuries sustained in the accident or whether he suffered some other medical condition.

According to the BDN, 51-year-old Vincent Scipione of West Roxbury, Mass., passed away while being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He was transferred there by LifeFlight helicopter after initially being taken to Waldo County General Hospital in Belfast.

Police say Scipione was driving fast down Main Street hill when he suddenly veered around a van in a five-way intersection and crashed into a parked car, striking it hard enough to send the parked vehicle into another car that was being parked.

His sedan continued on, careening into a brick Gothic building at around 1 o'clock in the afternoon. The impact shattered a glass window of the Gothic Restaurant, which is currently closed for the season.
