Shock collars are very controversial for dogs. They have passionate supporters and detractors. Garmin's latest device has really stirred up the controversy.

The Delta Smart, is a collar that does all sorts of things including keeping track how much activity your dog has. But the big selling point is it's ability to “reduce or eliminate unwanted behaviors” and make your dog a “more enjoyable member of the family.” It's basically a shock collar.

This is not the first shock collar out there. In fact, it's not the first one from Garmin - but for some reason, this has gotten people very upset. One comment (before they were disabled) was:

As a veterinarian, I would NEVER recommend a product like this. It is aversive, and these sorts of training techniques have long ago been scientifically proven to be far less effective than reward-based training, and far more damaging to your dog’s general well-being. Shame on you Garmin for trying to make outdated training seem modern and innovative.

Great idea, Garmin! Let’s electrocute the kids while we’re at it, too!

What do you think? I don't think I have it in me to do this. Hell, I feel bad when I have to yell at Casco. Shocking her would do me in...
