The folks at New Dimensions Credit Union in Waterville knew, when they won a national contest this week, that they had to donate the winnings to a local resident who has made it his life's mission to raise money for kids with cancer.

Tina Morrill, Marketing Director at the credit union, heard about a national contest and thought it would be fun to enter. So the crew produced and submitted a video about their fundraising efforts with their Cruisin' for a Cure. People were given the opportunity to vote and they did, in huge numbers! Tina said they watched the progress and thought they just might have it sewn up.

And they did! It was announced this week that the credit union's video was one of three, from different states, who would share the $30,000 grand prize! When submitting the video, Morrill said any winnings would go to help the Maine Children's Cancer Program and, specifically, to one local resident who's dedicated his life to the cause.

Sylvio Normandeau made a promise to his wife, Julia, shortly before she passed away from cancer, that he would help kids with the disease. She made the request after seeing a child walk by her room in the hospital. Sylvio's made it his life's quest to raise $500,000 for the cause. And this $10,000 donation from New Dimensions has taken him within $32,000 of his goal!

The first video was made by New Dimensions about winning the contest. It includes the moment when they told Normandeau that they had won the contest and presented him with the $10,000 check. Grab a tissue, because his reaction will definitely bring a tear or two!

The second video is the winning entry from the national 'Share the Love' contest. Congratulations to Tina Morrill and all the folks at New Dimensions Credit Union! Nice work!

You can make a donation to the Maine Children's Cancer Program in Sylvio's name, by visiting the MCCP's website, and under 'Tribute Information' select 'In tribute to' and type the name 'Sylvio Normandeau.'

New Dimensions Federal Credit Union is donating $10,000 to Maine Children's Cancer Program (MCCP) from the #ShareTheLove campaign! They donate on behalf of Mr. Sylvio Normandeau, a local man who has been working hard to reach his personal donation goal of $500,000. His reaction to the donation is a tear-jerker!
