A fatal crash remains under investigation after one woman was killed and three others were hurt.

The crash happened yesterday afternoon on Route 16 in Embden.

The Somerset County Sheriff's department says the victim as 22-year-old Jennifer Nile of Embden, a passenger in one of the vehicles involved in the crash.

Nile was in a car driven by 24-year-old Mark Schobel of North Anson, who tried to pass another eastbound vehicle, and collided with a westbound car driven by 67-year-old Leon Souweine of Bangor.

Nile was pronounced dead at the scene. Schobel, Souweine and his passenger, his wife Ruth, all required hospitalization.

Souweine, who is a well-known orthodontist in the Bangor area and a member of the rock band, Retrorockerz, was treated and released from Redington-Fairview Hospital in Skowhegan and his wife Ruth was transported to EMMC via life flight. EMMC is releasing no information on her condition.

There's no immediate word on Schobel's condition.

The crash remains under investigation but police say speed appears to be a factor.
