A woman celebrating her 65th birthday and her husband were injured when their motorcycle rear-ended another driven by their siblings.

Diane and Michael Whalen were returning from a shopping trip to Belfast with her sister and his brother, who are also married. Glen Whalen told CM News that he was driving a three-wheel motorcycle in front of a similar bike containing the other couple on College Avenue in Waterville Thursday.

He said he stopped for a car that was turning in front of him and, for some reason, his brother didn't stop. Michael Whalen's motorcycle spun around and the couple fell from the bike. Glen Whalen's wife Sandra sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene. He was the only one of the four that was wearing a helmet.

The condition of Diane and Michael wasn't immediately available but Glen said the couple was coherent when they were taken to the hospital. No charges are expected to be filed.
