The Cinderella Project provides free gowns to Maine teenagers, and will also take your gently used gown off your hands. All for only the cost of a promise that you'll pay it forward!

Prom time can be so expensive. There's the dress or tux, plus shoes and accessories. Then the cost of the Prom Bid. (is that still what they call the ticket that gets you into the prom? Maybe I'm showing my age) Of course, your teen will probably want to go to dinner before the dance. Oh, and the corsage or boutonniere. Phew!

Parents can be pretty overwhelmed with all of the expense, especially if they have more than one teenager in the house. So that's where the Cinderella Project swoops in, like a fairy godmother, and saves the day.

The Cinderella Project is an initiative of the Waldo Community Action Partners, located in Belfast. They take donations of gently used gowns, shoes, and accessories and pass them along, free of charge, to others. Donations can be dropped off at any Day's Jewelers location. Or you can find a list of locations on the Cinderella Project website.

Then, the dresses are spruced up and made available to teens who need them. There's no charge for the dresses or accessories, but organizers do ask that the recipients pay it forward by doing something nice for someone else.

This Saturday, April 9th, the Cinderella Project will be at Reny's Plaza in Belfast from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. And next Saturday, April 16th, dresses will be available at Gardiner Area High School. Good luck finding the perfect dress!
